Position Description:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the development and documentation of process controls, process capabilities and safety methods.
Position Reports to: Director of Manufacturing Engineering
Direct Reports: None.
Position Responsibilities:
In addition to other duties as assigned, this position will be responsible for:
- Improving metal forming products and processes through experimentation and applied skills;
- Leading engineering activities involved in transitioning new products from prototype to volume production;
- Working directly with toolmakers to develop new or enhanced process controls for all orthopedic manufacturing processes;
- Serving as Project Leader for new process development, capacity expansion and deployment. Work with facilities, external contractors and operation to install high volume systems and processes.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent. Masters degree preferred.
- 5 years experience in large manufacturing or engineering organization, medical manufacturing experience preferred.
- Familiarity with precision metrology systems such as high precision mechanical measurements, vision systems, and tool room measurement equipment. Skilled in basic statistical tools, such as SPC, using Excel or other applicable software.
- Capable of working directly with manufacturing and engineering teams to address technical and quality issues. Able to design and perform experiments necessary to improve products and processes and to analyze data related to engineering challenges.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
Physical Job Requirements:
- Able to sit for extended periods in office environment
- Able to stand for extended periods in a manufacturing environment
- Able to utilize computer based documentation control system
- Travel is estimated to be about 10%
Full Time/Part Time: Full time contract/temporary position with potential to transition to full time permanent.
Exempt/Non-exempt: Non-exempt
Shift: 1st but may have to be present or coordinate resolution of problems that may be initiated from, or impacting operations on “off” shifts.
